All about european sheep, wool and knitting tradition #wollwaerts

Finished and blocked my #sashikotee yesterday, tod

Finished and blocked my #sashikotee yesterday, today it‘s ready to wear. Love the result and might knit another one. I used @schoppelwolle ‚alblino‘, which is a combination of german lambswool and french linen. So much seeing forward to wearing it @_wollfestivalkassel #strandedknitting #wollwaerts

Very special little cardigan for my new grandchild

Very special little cardigan for my new grandchild. Found some wonderful mother-of-bearl buttons at my favourite shop in Berlin -‚Knopf und Schnalle‘. It’s a tiny shop, lined with shelves, full of boxes with the most amazing buttons. The lining is from my stash and the wool is the best: When visiting @thingborgwoolshop, looking for some special wool, it was brought from the backroom. It’s handsorted from a flock of Icelandic sheep and spun @uppspuni_minimill and sooo wooly-soft. The pattern is ‚Dagmal’, from Istex Lopi Book 44.

I‘ve wanted to knit this design by Nora Gaughn sin

I‘ve wanted to knit this design by Nora Gaughn since ages. It‘s so clever how she incorporated the cable into the opening for the thumb. The wool is a classic Rowan Tweed, I found in my goodie-bag, @munich_knits. I was so happy to attend the speech of Kaffe Fassett and now I have some mitts, to revive the memory, everytime I wear them. #munichknits2025 #fingerlessmitts #knittingcables #knittersoftheworld #wollwaerts

I almost forgot to show the finished icelandic swe

I almost forgot to show the finished icelandic sweater. It‘s in the basic colours light pink, dark pink and purple…
As the Riddari pattern in the children‘s version calls for Fjällalopi I had to adept the pattern, because I wanted to knit it with Lettlopi. It worked out fine and I‘m very happy with the result.

First project finished in 2026. Just in time for the snowfall, coming in yesterday. It‘s the OLE hat @paulastrickt, which is a fabulous pattern, knitted with the Heavy Merino @knittingforolive in the colourway ‚pea shoots‘. I love that name! #winteriscoming #hamburg #knittersofınstagram #wollwaerts #strikke

Pink for a little girl. Although with seven she is not so little anymore. Bit pink is still her favourite colour. So my next #Riddari comes in a combination of pink. #icelandicwool #istex #icelandicknitting #strikke #stricken #knittersofthewold #knittersofınstagram #wollwaerts #wollwerkstattmüritz

I‘m a bit obsessed with knitting the Icelandic swe

I‘m a bit obsessed with knitting the Icelandic sweater ‚Riddari‘, right now. It‘s such a classic design, with almost all the features of an authentic icelandic sweater. And there are so many possibilities to play with colour combinations. While knitting I‘m already thinking how another combination might look like.

This happened, when my six year-old granddaughter went with me into the yarnshop: we came out with Chenille yarn in the brightest colours. Now I have to come up with a pattern and I‘m swatching. We wanted flowers and I‘ve been inspired by @anna_husemann and @malyim_kim - so it will be Intarsia.

Spring is almost there, but I will have some cold

Spring is almost there, but I will have some cold days to wear my new Sweater. It‘s ‚Juri‘ and I used pure Austrian wool, I bought in Vienna. The pattern is a bit complicated in the beginning, but it‘s a clever design and totally worth it. #jurisweater #paulastrickt #strikke #stricken #knitting #knittersofthewold #tejer #realwool #sweaterweather #wollwerkstattmüritz #wollwaerts

My New Year‘s Resolution to use yarn from my stash

My New Year‘s Resolution to use yarn from my stash works out fine: I tried a traditional Bavarian heart-pattern, from Maria Erlenbacher‘s book, with this hand-dyed yarn. I‘ve bought it years ago and today, on Valentine‘s day, I‘ve finished this pair of pink socks with a heart-pattern. #strickenistliebe #knittinglove #strikk #sockenstricken #sockknitting #bayerischstricken #traditionalpattern #wollwaerts #wollwerkstattmüritz

Made this classic icelandic sweater for my two-yea

Made this classic icelandic sweater for my two-year-old grandson. It‘s a well-known design, #kambur, by the famous knitwear-designer @vedisj and I used the typical icelandic yarn for this kind of sweaters, Lettlopi.

Knit in Iceland with the beautiful yarn @gilhagi_f

Knit in Iceland with the beautiful yarn @gilhagi_farm . It‘s so soft and lustrous and it was sold out, at all of the places I visited. I could only secure three skeins for me. Two in a natural white and one handdyed with Icelandic dock. The pattern ‚Jelka‘ @lilalu72 works very well with it. And next year I would love to have a sweater-amount of this yarn🥰 #naturalwool #realwool #icelandicwool #minimill #iceland #knitting #knittersofinstagram #strik #stricken #naturaldyeing #handdyedwool #breien #wollwaerts

Little Tsutsu wears a sweater in traditional Icela

Little Tsutsu wears a sweater in traditional Icelandic Lopapeysa-style. There are actually guidelines about the features of a real Icelandic sweater. I‘ve been talking to women from the Icelandic Handknitting Association and they told me all about it. So Tsutsu‘s sweater wouldn’t pass their criteria, because it‘s knitted with the very thin Icelandic Einband…. But I think some variation is always nice.

I did it! I started to learn how to spin. My wonderful teacher Jóhanna @textilmidstod has a lot of patience. And it‘s so interesting to actually feel how the fibers of different sheep breeds react, during the process of spinning. So far I have tried Icelandic sheep and Wensleydale. Also my friend and accomplished weaver @suebmal uses the thread, which I find absolutely thrilling.

Mitten collection at the Icelandic Textile Museum

Mitten collection at the Icelandic Textile Museum in Blonduos. A lot of them can be found, slightly modified, in the book ‚Icelandic Mittens‘ by Gudrun Hannele Henttinen. It will be fun to knit some of them with the wool from here. But I also liked the plain everyday-mittens in brown. And I was able to look at them real closely. #blonduos #icelandicknitting #textilmidstod #icelandictextilecenter #nordicknitting #mittens #stricken #knitting #breien #knittersofinstagram #knittersoftheworld #wollwaerts

Learning about the fleece @istexlopi wool scouring in Blœnduos. Most of the Icelandic wool is being washed here. All the different qualities and colours in one place! #iceland #icelandicwool #lopapeysa #lopi #nordicknitting #realwool #wollwaerts

Beautiful morning @textilmidstod - everybody is working on projects in this amazing space. @cristianemohallem @suebmal @carolineborucki @clairesounes and me - I‘m knitting socks, two at a time on circular needles. Because I was worried one skein of the sockyarn from @uppspuni_minimill wouldn’t be enough for a pair. But of course it is! #sockknitting #sockenstricken #textileart #wool #icelandicwool #iceland

Visit at the Open Air Museum in Reykjavik. Typical old house with grass on the roof - building material was rare and grass was the perfect solution! Inside some of the houses lovely decoration. The fishermen‘s mittens with two thumbs are very common here.
